Two participants in a Florida Pride parade were run over by a
truck Saturday night, in what the mayor of Fort Lauderdale
called a “terrorist attack against the LGBT community.”

Others, however, including members of a local Gay Men’s Chorus,
have maintained the deadly crash was an accident by one of its
own members. Police said they are investigating all
possibilities.

One of the victims died from their injuries, and the other is in
critical condition, according to WPLG Local 10 News. The FBI was
called in to help the investigation, according to the station.

The white pickup truck — carrying a rainbow-colored Pride flag —
was lined up with other floats when the driver hit the gas and
ran over the two would-be marchers at the start of the Wilton
Manors celebration around 7 p.m., the station reported.

“The truck revved up real fast and just took off,” parade-goer
David Banter told CBS Miami.

The driver, who narrowly missed hitting the convertible Rep.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz was riding in, told police that his
foot was stuck between the gas pedal and the brake causing him
to lose control, CBS said.

NYPD officers arrested and pepper sprayed protesters at the
Queer Liberation March Sunday afternoon while attempting to
arrest two people for graffiti, according to witnesses.

Numerous videos shared on social media show a crowd of officers
shoving outraged protesters where arrests were being made near
Washington Square Park.

As two were being arrested for graffiti, protesters intervened
in an attempt to free them, at which point police responded with
pepper spray, multiple witnesses told Gothamist. A legal
observer said at least four people were arrested and 10 others
pepper sprayed—including someone running a fruit stand nearby
protesters.

Speakers at the Queer Liberation March for Black Lives Matter
told protesters they got word that officers were pepper spraying
people nearby after marching from Lower Manhattan to Stonewall
Inn and ending with a rally at Washington Square Park. NYPD
helicopters circled above during the march.

"The NYPD is going ballistic," said a witness livestreaming on
Facebook. "The situation was at a point where this was almost
Stonewall 2," the narrator added, referencing the uprising at
Stonewall Inn in 1969 nearby Sunday's protest on the weekend of
Pride and 51st anniversary of the uprising.

"There was an excessive amount of police once the march got
here," the livestreamer said.

Witnesses described a dance party before arrests began—a
celebration and march led by the Reclaim Pride Coalition.

"We were dancing right in front of the arch on 5th ave and out
of nowhere, cops started storming into the crowd," Mike Perles,
a 29-year-old city employee, told us. "They pushed everyone in
front of them out of the way and onto the ground. They pushed a
reporter who was taking photos down and started randomly pepper
spraying people. I couldn't see anyone instigating. It seemed
like they felt out numbered after entering a huge group and
panicked and started beating people up."

(Nairobi) – Cameroonian security forces have arbitrarily
arrested, beaten, or threatened at least 24 people, including a
17-year-old boy, for alleged consensual same-sex conduct or
gender nonconformity, since February 2021, Human Rights Watch
said today. At least one of them was forced to undergo an HIV
test and anal examination.

Based on Human Rights Watch’s monitoring and discussions with
Cameroonian nongovernmental organizations, the recent accounts
of abuse documented here seem to be part of an overall uptick in
police action against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
(LGBT) people in Cameroon. Sexual relations between people of
the same sex are criminalized in Cameroon and punished with up
to five years in prison.

“These recent arrests and abuses raise serious concerns about a
new upsurge in anti-LGBT persecution in Cameroon,” said Neela
Ghoshal, associate LGBT rights director at Human Rights Watch.
“The law criminalizing same-sex conduct puts LGBT people at a
heightened risk of being mistreated, tortured, and assaulted
without any consequences for the abusers.”

Between February 17 and April 8, Human Rights Watch interviewed
by telephone 18 people, including 5 who had been detained, 3
lawyers, and 10 members of Cameroonian LGBT nongovernmental
organizations. Human Rights Watch also reviewed reports by
Cameroonian and international LGBT organizations, court
documents, police reports, and medical records.

Human Rights Watch shared its findings with the justice
minister, Laurent Esso; the state secretary at the Defense
Ministry in charge of the national gendarmerie, Yves Landry
Etoga; and the delegate general for national security, Martin
Mbarga Nguele, in a March 25 letter, requesting answers to
specific questions. Cameroonian officials have yet to respond.

On February 24, police officers raided the office of Colibri, an
organization that provides HIV prevention and treatment
services, in Bafoussam, West Region, and arrested 13 people on
homosexuality charges, including 7 Colibri staff. The police
released all 13 people on February 26 and 27. Three of those
arrested said that police beat at least three Colibri staff
members at the police station and that the police threatened and
verbally assaulted all those arrested. They also said that the
police interrogated them without the presence of a lawyer and
forced them to sign statements they were not allowed to read.

One of them, a 22-year-old transgender woman, said: “Police told
us we are devils, not humans, not normal. They beat a trans
woman in the face, slapped her twice in front of me.”

Police also forced one of the 13 arrested, a 26-year-old
transgender woman, to undergo an HIV test and anal examination
at a health center in Bafoussam on February 25. She told Human
Rights Watch: “The doctor was embarrassed but said he had to do
the examination because the prosecutor needed it. He carried out
the examination. I had to bend over. The doctor wore gloves and
put in his finger. It was the most humiliating thing I’ve ever
experienced.”

What this transgender woman experienced is not an isolated case.
Human Rights Watch has previously documented that prosecutors in
Cameroon have introduced medical reports based on forced anal
exams into court, contributing to convictions of individuals
charged with consensual homosexual conduct.

Human Rights Watch documented two additional arrests in 2021 and
one mass arrest in 2020. In Bertoua, on February 14, gendarmes
arrested 12 youth, including at least 1 teenager, on
homosexuality charges and subjected them to ill-treatment before
releasing them the same day. On February 8, gendarmes
arbitrarily arrested two transgender women in Douala, targeting
them in the street on the basis of their gender expression.
Prosecutors charged them with homosexual conduct, lack of
identity cards, and public indecency.

Police in riot gear on Saturday blocked streets and fired tear
gas to try to disperse marchers at a Pride parade in Istanbul.

Authorities have banned Istanbul Pride events since 2015, citing
public security, and more recently, COVID-19 pandemic
restrictions. The Cumhuriyet newspaper said at least 25 people
were detained.

According to activists, security forces detained several of the
protesters who had gathered in Taksim, a district that has
traditionally hosted Pride marches.

Carrying rainbow flags and chanting slogans, the protesters had
attempted to bypass the police blockade through the back
streets, but were violently dispersed.

Footage from the march showed police storming the crowd and
arresting participants.

According to AFP, one of the news agency’s photographers
covering the event was also briefly arrested during the parade.

After being released from the Istanbul police headquarters,
Bulent Kilic said he had filed a “violent arrest” complaint
against the police who pinned him to the ground and pushed their
legs into his neck and back during the arrest.

AFP management protested against the “violent arrest” of Kilic
“while he was only doing his job as a journalist.”

The Turkish branch of campaign group Reporters Without Borders
also condemned his arrest.

Images showed Kilic being held on the ground by officers, who
were pressing down on his body with their knees.

Kilic also said that his camera was damaged during the arrest.

After a spectacular Istanbul Pride parade in 2014 joined by more
than 100,000 people, Turkish authorities have banned the march
in recent years, officially for security reasons.

LGBTQ groups accuse the Turkish government of waging a “hate
campaign” against them, encouraging violence against a
vulnerable community.

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Police arrested at least 20
people at the Pride March in Mendiola, Manila, on Friday, June
26.

Ten members of LGBTQ+ rights group Bahaghari, 8 from other
progressive groups, and two drivers have been detained at the
Manila Police District.

They were being charged with disobedience of person in authority
in relation to Republic Act 11332, otherwise known as the Law on
Reporting of Communicable Diseases, and Batas Pambansa 880,
otherwise known as Public Assembly Act.

The protesters were observing physical distancing and other
health protocols when the police arrived to disperse them.

The police did not cite any violations while arresting the
protesters and only told them, “Nasa batas iyan na bawal iyan
(It’s in the law that it’s prohibited),” without citing any
specific law.

Prior to the the “grand mananita” themed indignation rally on
Philippine Independence Day, June 12, human right lawyers had
stressed that the Bayanihan To Heal As One Act as well as the
public health law, Republic Act No. 11332 or the Mandatory
Reporting of Notifiable Diseases Act, do not prohibit rallies.

At 10 am on Friday, the group marched from Morayta and held a
program near the Mendiola Peace Arch to “resist [President
Rodrigo] Duterte’s tyranny.”

The Bahaghari-led protest was held to celebrate Pride month and
to oppose the anti-terrorism bill.

Bahaghari spokesperson Rey Valmores-Salinas argued, while being
taken away, that they were just excercising their rights.

Salinas, who was among those arrested, said the program was
peaceful.

“Hinuli man kami ngayon, walang pandemiya, walang lockdown, at
mas lalong walang mga pasistang baboy ang makapipigil ng
pagsinag ng Bahaghari (We may have been arrested now but no
pandemic, lockdown, or facsist pigs could stop us from making
Bahaghari shine),” Salinas, who was already onboard the police
vehicle, added.

According to human rights group Karapatan, “queers have the
right to protest, speak out, and to take action against a
draconian terror law that will impact on citizens’ rights.”

“We call on PNP to #FreePride20! To all members of the LGBTQ
community and our allies, your support is very important. Let us
show them that Pride is not just about the colors that we wear,
it is about our love, our solidarity for those who fight for our
humanity,” said Karapatan secretary-general Cristina Palabay.

A video posted by Karapatan paralegel officer Jon Callueng
showed that the police also attempted to arrest an intern at
independent news group Manila Today, who was mistaken as a
protester.

This is not the first time for police to arrest protesters
during the pandemic, even if they did not violate quarantine
rules. (READ: Cops arrest 8 at anti-terrorism bill protest in

The World Health Organization is now counting more than 550
monkeypox cases worldwide, the group’s technical lead for
monkeypox, Rosamund Lewis, said Tuesday on CNN International.

“We actually have today a count of over 550 confirmed cases in
30 countries across four of WHO’s six regions,” Lewis said.

“What we’re seeing now is really quite different,” she said,
given that the outbreak is happening in multiple places at once.

“We’re seeing cases all appearing in a relatively short period
of time. We’re seeing that in a few days, in a couple of weeks,
we’re seeing over 500 cases. This is different. This has not
been seen before.”

In an update over the weekend, WHO said that as of Thursday, it
had received reports of 257 confirmed monkeypox cases and about
120 suspected cases in 23 nations where the virus is not endemic.

Lewis said WHO does not know the source of the outbreak and
called on countries to take advantage of the “window of
opportunity” to keep cases from unfolding into a greater
outbreak.

The multinational monkeypox outbreak continues to pose a low
risk to the general public, and, for now, it seems unlikely that
cases will mushroom into a global pandemic, according to the
World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention.

But, experts are concerned that the virus could continue to
spread and that transmission may escape containment without an
urgent and thorough public health response.
The outbreak tally continues to increase rapidly, with hundreds
of cases now reported across at least 23 countries. In an update
released Sunday, May 29, WHO reported 257 confirmed cases and
around 120 suspected cases from 23 countries. Those figures are
already significantly outdated. As of Monday, Our World in Data
reported 555 confirmed cases worldwide. On Tuesday, the United
Kingdom reported 190 cases, up from the 106 that WHO reported
Sunday. Likewise, the US total has increased to 15 cases, up
from 10 reported last week.

In a press briefing last Thursday, CDC Director Rochelle
Walensky said the agency presumes that there is some community
spread of the virus in the US.

Still, in a public presentation guiding clinicians last week,
Agam Rao, a CDC infectious disease specialist and poxvirus
expert, highlighted that the monkeypox virus is not easily
spread. The virus is related to smallpox but causes a relatively
mild disease with a telltale rash and is usually accompanied by
flu-like symptoms. Transmission requires close and prolonged
contact, with the highest risk of spread to health care workers
and the family members and sexual partners of infected people.
"Monkeypox virus does not have the potential to be a pandemic,"
Rao said succinctly. (More information on monkeypox and its
transmission is here.)

So far, many of the cases appear to be in men who have sex with
men (MSM), and the virus appears to be spreading through sexual
networks. But health officials are cautious to avoid spurring
stigma or a false sense of security. The virus can spread to
anyone, and it is not a sexually transmitted infection
specifically.

Moderate risk and continued spread
In its risk assessment Sunday, WHO said the "risk for the
general public appears to be low," and the "overall public
health risk at global level is assessed as moderate," given
widespread cases clustering in countries outside West and
Central Africa, where the virus is endemic in animals.

"The public health risk could become high if this virus exploits
the opportunity to establish itself as a human pathogen and
spreads to groups at higher risk of severe disease such as young
children and immunosuppressed persons," WHO said.

In a public webinar Monday, WHO’s technical lead for monkeypox,
Rosamund Lewis, elaborated on that assessment, saying: "At the
moment, we are not concerned of a global pandemic… We are
concerned that individuals may acquire this infection through
high-risk exposure if they don’t have the information they need
to protect themselves," she added. "And we are concerned that
because the global population is not immune to orthopoxviruses
since the end of smallpox eradication that the virus may attempt
to exploit a niche and spread more easily between people."

Health officials are now racing to raise awareness and step up
outreach programs ahead of Pride Month celebrations in June.
Already spread of the virus has been linked to large events and
parties in Europe as pandemic restrictions eased, Hans Henri
Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, noted in a statement
Tuesday. The virus is suspected to have circulated unrecognized
for weeks or longer. Upcoming festivals and large parties could
provide further opportunities for the outbreak to amplify.

"We do not yet know if we will be able to contain its spread
completely," Kluge said. "For that, we need a significant and
urgent reduction in exposures through clear communication,
community-led action, case isolation during the infectious
period, and effective contact tracing and monitoring."

Faggots don't even know the last penis they sucked.

Transgender child molester Hannah Tubbs was already serving time
in a Los Angeles County juvenile facility for the sexual assault
of a young girl when she was charged with murder

A convicted transgender child molester pleaded not guilty in a
California courtroom Thursday to murdering a member of a
survivalist transient group amid lingering controversy about her
lenient sentence in a sexual assault attack in Los Angeles
County.

Hannah Tubbs, 26, faces several charges in Kern County,
including first-degree murder, assault on a person with force
and great bodily injury and preventing or dissuading a witness
by threat or force. A court hearing on the case will be held
July 8 and a jury trial is slated to begin July 18. Any motions
filed on the case will be heard June 30, the Kern County
District Attorney's Office told Fox News.

Tubbs remains locked up on $1 million bail in connection to the
April 2019 beating death of Michael Clark. Until May, Tubbs was
serving a two-year sentence in a juvenile facility after Los
Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon declined to
prosecute Tubbs as an adult for a 2014 sexual assault attack on
a young girl.

The attack occurred when Tubbs was a few weeks shy of turning
18. The case drew a heap of criticism on Gascon, who implemented
a policy of prohibiting youthful offenders from being tried as
adults. Tubbs later bragged bout the light sentence on a
jailhouse phone call about not being required to register as a
sex offender once released.

The original prosecutor assigned to that case previously told
Fox News that Tubbs had behavioral issues while in juvenile
custody and could have been released as early as June.

"Very rarely is Tubbs in compliance with anything," Shea Saana
said. "And now we have an extremely violent, dangerous,
unremorseful child predator on the verge of being released, and
my boss does not care."

During a Kern County court hearing last month, multiple
witnesses testified that Tubbs admitted to beating Clark with a
rock.

Kern County Sheriff’s Sgt. Steven Davis testified that witnesses
told him Tubbs stole money from Clark and that the two had a
verbal argument on the evening of April 20, 2019. The following
day, the two individuals went for a walk and only Tubbs
returned, KGET reported.

Two campers told authorities the Tubbs hated Clark. Tubbs also
allegedly threatened to kill one of the witnesses if he
mentioned what happened to Clark.

Fox News' Lawrence Richard contributed to this report.

North Carolina education officials worked to eliminate "red
flag" words such as "whiteness" when discussing a program that
would have trained teachers on how to incorporate critical race
theory in lessons for preschoolers with disabilities, newly
released emails revealed.

A lengthy report from parent activist organization No Left Turn
in Education revealed that state public education officials
openly discussed in emails the need to avoid "terminology that
would create red flags" while discussing a planned contract with
the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute at the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that would have
trained teachers on how to incorporate aspects of critical race
theory into preschool classes. The parent group obtained the
emails through public records requests.

MISSOURI AG SUBPOENAS SCHOOL DISTRICTS OVER INTRUSIVE STUDENT
SURVEYS

The contract, which was initially approved by the North Carolina
State Board of Education and federally funded, was not finalized
because State Superintendent of Public Instruction Catherine
Truitt declined to sign off on the contract after No Left Turn
in Education obtained slides from the program on how to
"deconstruct whiteness."

"Deconstructing whiteness" is an aspect of critical race theory,
a framework that says U.S. institutions and culture are
systemically racist and oppressive to racial minorities and must
be re-established through anti-racism.

In a statement provided to the Washington Examiner, Nancy
Andersen, North Carolina's No Left Turn in Education chapter
president, blasted the state's education officials for using
federal funds to promote critical race theory while also taking
steps to "deceive the public."

"It was bad enough that education bureaucrats directed taxpayer
dollars to train preschool teachers of special needs students to
use CRT in the classroom. It's even worse that they would go to
great lengths to deceive the public about it," Andersen said.
"In a state with abysmal reading scores, CRT is displacing
valuable instructional time. This is intentional, and it's
robbing our students of a quality education."

The emails showed UNC staffers asking state education officials
if there were "any words/phrases we should not include in print
materials." In one exchange, a UNC official said she did not
know "how to be 'safe' and yet say what needs to be said."

In another exchange, UNC staff expressed urgency in finalizing
the contract following an initial teacher training session on
racial equity that did not garner significant attendance.

"I'd like to have the contract finalized before they see how few
people attended," the staffer wrote.

In response to a request for comment from the Washington
Examiner, UNC provided a statement touting the work of the Frank
Porter Graham Child Development Institute but did not comment on
the contract.

"FPG is particularly proud of its established partnership with

future generations of North Carolinians," the university said.
"The North Carolina Early Learning Network, a project under FPG,

No Left Turn in Education said the emails show a need to audit
the state's educational system.

"These emails proved our NC Dept of Instruction knew and helped
these trainings along. Misusing federal funds toward these ends
and hiding the evidence warrants a full audit of our state
educational system," Andersen said.

Andersen continued: "NC early literacy rates are abysmal, but
the [North Carolina] Office of Early Learning is focused on
misdirecting funds for race-essentialism in pre-K. Based on the
findings of our report, we call upon our state government and
its agencies to dissolve contractual relationships with the UNC-
Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute. Additionally,
[we] demand the state perform a full financial audit of the

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction did not
respond to a request for comment.

Where is homosexuality still outlawed?
There are 69 countries that have laws that criminalise
homosexuality, and nearly half of these are in Africa.

However, in some countries there have been moves to
decriminalise same-sex unions.

In February this year, Angola's President Joao Lourenco signed
into law a revised penal code to allow same-sex relationships
and bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

In June last year, Gabon reversed a law that had criminalised
homosexuality and made gay sex punishable with six months in
prison and a large fine.

Botswana's High Court also ruled in favour of decriminalising
homosexuality in 2019.

Mozambique and the Seychelles have also scrapped anti-
homosexuality laws in recent years.

In Trinidad and Tobago, a court in 2018 ruled that laws banning
gay sex were unconstitutional.

But there are countries where existing laws outlawing
homosexuality have been tightened, including Nigeria and Uganda.

And in others, efforts to get the laws removed have failed.

A court in Singapore dismissed a bid to overturn a law that
prohibits gay sex early last year.

In May 2019, the high court in Kenya upheld laws criminalising
homosexual acts.

Colonial legacy
Many of the laws criminalising homosexual relations originate
from colonial times.

And in many places, breaking these laws could be punishable by
long prison sentences.

Out of the 53 countries in the Commonwealth - a loose
association of countries most of them former British colonies -
36 have laws that criminalise homosexuality.

Countries that criminalise homosexuality today also have
criminal penalties against women who have sex with women,
although the original British laws applied only to men.

The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex
Association (Ilga) monitors the progress of laws relating to
homosexuality around the world.

It says the death penalty is the legally prescribed punishment
for same-sex sexual acts in Brunei, Iran, Mauritania, Saudi
Arabia, Yemen and in the northern states in Nigeria.

Sudan repealed the death penalty for consensual same-sex sexual
acts last year.

Some observers note that the risk of prosecution in some places
is minimal.

For example, a 2017 report on Jamaica by the UK Home Office said
that Jamaica was regarded as a homophobic society, but that the
"authorities do not actively seek to prosecute LGBT persons".

Activist groups say the ability of lesbian, gay, bisexual and
trans (LGBT) organisations to carry out advocacy work is being
restricted.

Changing trend
There is a global trend toward decriminalising same-sex acts.

So far, 28 countries in the world recognise same-sex marriages,
and 34 others provide for some partnership recognition for same-
sex couples, Ilga says.

As of December 2020, 81 countries had laws against
discrimination in the workplace on the basis of sexual
orientation. Twenty years ago, there were only 15.

A May 20 raid at Bush River Books & Videos in Abington, Md.,
netted nine arrests, including four men charged with "Perverted
Sexual Practice," reports the Washington Blade.

Perverted sexual practice is another name for Maryland's anti-
sodomy law. Though the Supreme Court's 2003 Lawrence v. Texas
ruling invalidated bans on consensual sodomy, many states still
have such laws on the books — and they are enforced, even if it
runs afoul of federal law.

One of those arrested for perverted sexual practice was in a
private, locked video booth at the adult bookstore with another
man when police in riot gear unlocked the door and arrested
both, according to a friend of one of the arrested individuals
who spoke with the Blade.

“They spent the night in jail and were badly treated,” the
friend said. One of those arrested told the newspaper that all
nine men spent the night in jail.

Prosecutors and police in Harford County, Md., are defending the
raid and arrests, saying the bookstore is a community nuisance
and often receives complaints. Harford County State’s Attorney
Albert J. Peisinger, a Republican, may be doubting whether the
"perverted" sex charges hold up in court, as it appears —
according to online court records — that at least three of the
men arrested will no longer be charged. But one man did appear
to still face the perverted sex charge, a misdemeanor. Others
are facing charges of soliticing prostitution and indecent
exposure, though prosecutors may have a tough time convicting if
the exposure occurred behind a locked video booth and among
consenting adults.

Maryland's General Assembly last year voted to repeal the
perverted sexual practice law, but it appears that the Senate
and governor did not follow its lead.

In an attempt to promote its reading program for children, Pizza
Hut came under fire for recommending a book about a child drag
queen .

The chain restaurant sent an email to begin its summer program
Camp Book It , which began on June 1. As June also marks Pride
Month, the email included three recommendations surrounding the
topic of the month, including one book titled Big Wig, which
features a male child protagonist who decides to dress in drag
for his neighborhood costume competition.

"These three books explore the uniqueness of every person,
celebrate our individuality and encourage kids to see what makes
us different, makes us special," the email said.

After the popular conservative Twitter account Libs of TikTok
posted a screenshot of the email, calls for a boycott came
almost immediately.

"Pizza Hut has gone full woke, now we must make them full
broke," author Brigitte Gabriel tweeted.

"Pizza Hut was started in Wichita and mostly funded by Kansans
these folks would be appalled that their amazing American
success story is part of the effort to destroy America and her
children," American Conservative Union Chairman Matt Schlapp
tweeted. "These companies need to realize we won’t use their
products any longer.

"I dont eat this piss garbage," Tim Pool wrote.

Meanwhile, Andy Levy, a podcaster, tweeted out a laughing GIF
with the caption: "When you see why pizza hut is trending."

As of this report, Pizza Hut was in the top 10 trending topics
on Twitter. It hadn't responded to criticism on the platform.

The restaurant runs its reading program year-round, partnering
with schools during the school year. Children are allowed to
read a book of their choosing and receive a certificate for a
free pizza if they complete the book within the month. Its
program has been operating since 1984, with the restaurant
calling itself a "literacy motivator" in its Twitter bio.

Pizza Hut's parent organization is Yum! Brands, which also owns
Taco Bell and KFC.

Nigerian authorities reportedly arrested 5 men over the weekend
after they were accused of being gay. The detentions follow a
worsening trend of anti-LGBTQ+ violence by police.

The men were arrested on Sunday in Kano, Nigeria’s second
largest city, by the State Hisbah Board, an Islamic police unit
established by the local government. Few details were publicized
about the circumstances leading up to the incident. But Dr.
Harun Ibn-Sina, the board’s commander general, said the police’s
actions followed reports of unspecified activity from residents
in the area, according to Nigerian news site Vanguard.

Ibn-Sina claimed the suspects would be charged in court but did
not set forth a date as to when a trial would take place. He
allegedly urged young people, who he called the “leaders of
tomorrow,” to “shun unwholesome practices” like homosexuality.

Kano’s Islamic police force has made similar arrests in the
past. In January 2020, the Hisbah unit rounded up 15 people
alleged to be gay at a party hosted by college graduates,
according to the website Punch Nigeria. At the time, authorities
announced that arrestees would be taken to a “correctional
center” to be “re-oriented,” likely referring to the harmful and
discredited practice of conversion therapy.

Under the Nigerian criminal code, individuals detained over
accusations of being gay face potential imprisonment of up to 14
years. While LGBTQ+ Nigerians have historically been
criminalized under colonial-era prohibitions of gay sex, the
situation has grown more tenuous over the past several decades.

In 2013, Nigeria strenghtened its ban on homosexuality with the
passage of the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act (SSMPA). While
the law’s name suggests that it only relates to marriage
equality, its scope is actually much more broad. According to
Human Rights Watch (HRW), the legislation bars gay couples from
cohabitating and prohibits any kind of “public show of same sex
amorous relationship.” It also forbids LGBTQ+ organizations from
operating openly in the country.

Police violence directed at Nigeria’s LGBTQ+ community has
dramatically increased in the 8 years since the law was enacted,
according to reports.

In 2018, at least 47 people accused of being gay were arrested
after police raided a birthday party and alleged that attendees
had engaged in “homosexual initiation.” Although a judge
ultimately released the men last year, their case was dropped
due to a lack of responsiveness from the prosecution instead of
a full acquittal. That means those charged could be rearrested
at any time under the same allegations.

Many of the men told Reuters that the two years of fighting the
case had taken its toll — ostracized from their homes and
communities. “Everyone in the area knew about it,” said 23-year-
old Chris Agiriga. “I lost my job, I lost my family, I lost a
lot of my friends — all because of this.”

Persecution of LGBTQ+ Nigerians has particularly escalated under
the presidency of anti-gay leader Muhammadu Buhari, according to
the Initiative for Equal Rights (TIER), a human rights group
based in the country. According to a 2020 report, there had been
a total of 482 human rights violations over the past year —
despite low reporting rates among trans people, intersex
individuals, and women.

Anti-LGBTQ+ violence also reportedly spiked due to COVID-19
restrictions, which kept vulnerable populations trapped at home
with potential abusers. Additionally, police ramped up
entrapments of gay men — faking their sexual orientations to
lure victims into a situation where they can be caught and
arrested.

According to global review by the global LGBTQ+ rights group
ILGA in 2020, homosexuality is legal in just 22 of Africa's 54
countries. As is the case in Nigeria, anti-gay criminal codes
are often remnants of colonization.

The man charged in the murder of Jorge Diaz Johnston allegedly
got rid of his body by tossing it in a dumpster outside the
apartment the two men shared and wheeling it down the street.

That grisly detail was included in newly released search warrant
affidavits that Tallahassee police filed in early January, after
Diaz Johnston went missing and was found dead in a Jackson
County landfill. It also contradicts previous accounts from law
enforcement that the body was first dumped in an Okaloosa County
landfill and hauled to Jackson County.

Steven Yinger, a felon with a long history of burglary and theft
convictions, was indicted Thursday on first-degree murder and
other charges in the death of Diaz Johnston. Yinger, who
allegedly strangled Diaz Johnston to death, is being held
without bail in the Leon County Detention Facility.

Diaz Johnston’s body was found Jan. 8 at the Jackson County
dump, a regional landfill that takes trash from Leon County and
surrounding areas. Landfill employees told police that just
before the body was found, a truck from Tallahassee dumped a
load of trash. The body was wrapped in linens believed to have
been taken from his bed.

Police also said that after an initial search warrant was served
at Diaz Johnston’s apartment on Alachua Avenue, a trash can was
found down the road. Blood was found in the bottom of the
receptacle.

Who is Steven Yinger? Records and ex-wife describe petty thief

“Based on the above information, there is concern Jorge was
murdered at his residence via strangulation with a ligature,”
detectives wrote. “It’s also believed Jorge’s body was disposed
of via residential solid waste pick-up on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022.”

Investigators with the Tallahassee Police Department hoped to
find whatever binding was used in the murder inside Diaz
Johnston’s apartment. They also hoped to find blood evidence,
which they said may have been cleaned up or concealed.

Police also got a warrant to search an apartment on Texas Street
of a man Yinger described as his drug dealer. Yinger told police
that he “rented” Diaz Johnston’s blue BMW to the man in the wake
of his roommate’s disappearance.

Investigators wrote in one of the affidavits that they were
concerned the man may have been involved in the murder or the
disposal of the body. The man denied any involvement.

The man was sentenced in January to 12 days in jail for
possession of cocaine. Court records show he has not been
charged in Diaz Johnston’s murder. State Attorney Jack Campbell
said he couldn’t comment on whether the man is a suspect in the
killing.

“It’s a pending criminal investigation,” Campbell said. “It’s
inappropriate for me to talk about the facts.”

Police went to Diaz Johnston’s apartment the night of Jan. 7
hoping to find him. Instead, they found his car out front and
Yinger inside. Yinger told officers he hadn’t seen his roommate
in several days.

“(Yinger) allowed officers to look around the residence to which
nothing appeared out of the norm,” police said in a report.
“Officers explained Jorge’s room was organized and appeared he
just left (no signs of a struggle or foul play was detected.)”

But officers noted something was off about Yinger.

“(Officers) explained (Yinger) appeared ‘weird’ as if he was not
telling the full truth about something,” the report said.
“(Officers) described (his) responses to be short and nonchalant
in some manner.”

SAN LORENZO -- The Alameda County Sheriff's Office is
investigating a group of five men who disrupted a drag queen
storytelling event at the San Lorenzo Library Saturday with
homophobic and transphobic slurs.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred
Saturday afternoon at the San Lorenzo Library located on Paseo
Grande.

Alameda County Sheriff's Dept. Lt. Ray Kelly said the group
entered the library about 1:30 p.m., during an event called Drag
Queen Story Time. Kyle Chu, also known as drag queen Panda
Dulce, hosted a story hour meant for preschool-aged children in
celebration of Pride Month.

"The men made homophobic and transphobic remarks against a
member of the LGTBQ+ community who was hosting the event," Kelly
wrote in an email.

"There was no physical violence. Deputies responded to the
disturbance and are conducting follow up to identify the group
of men and their affiliation. They were reported to be members
of the Proud Boys organization."

The sheriff's department Facebook page says "The men were
described as extremely aggressive with a threatening violent
demeanor causing people to fear for their safety. Deputies
responded to the scene and were able to de-escalate the
situation."

The Drag Queen Story Hour website describes the program as "just
what it sounds like - drag queens reading stories to children in
libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the
imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and
gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role
models. In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who
defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people
can present as they wish, where dress up is real."

Why isn't the sheriff also investigating the grooming activities of thes

I heard the GQP doesn't even like people to have beards because they

Sounds like the cops should have arrested those groomers, too.

For the second time this weekend, an LGBTQ+ event was targeted
by men whom law enforcement described as linked to a hate group.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office in California said Sunday
that it has opened a hate crime investigation into the Saturday
afternoon disruption at San Lorenzo Library, about 25 miles
southeast of San Francisco.

The office said in a statement that five men whom witnesses
described as members of the Proud Boys disrupted an edition of
"Drag Queen Story Hour," an LGBTQ+ education franchise for
children and families that started in San Francisco in 2015.

The office added that the men wore clothing and logos that were
consistent with the Proud Boys, a white nationalist group linked
to the January 6 violent siege at the U.S. Capitol.

The men, it said, shouted "homophobic and transphobic slurs at
the event organizer," according to the statement from sheriff's
Lt. Ray Kelly.

"The men were described as extremely aggressive with a
threatening violent demeanor causing people to fear for their
safety," he said.

No arrests were made at the scene, Kelly said.

The one-hour event Saturday was scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.,
with Drag Queen Story Hour performer Panda Dulce billed as its
on-site leader. "We will hear stories, sing songs, and have
fun," the library's promotion said.

It said that the hour would be curated for preschool-age
children, but that older children were welcome.

Organizers say on their website that "DQSH captures the
imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and
gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role
models."

In a statement, Drag Queen Story Hour decried what it described
as conservative politicians who have made an issue out of the
existence of LGBTQ+ people, particularly trans people, to foment
division and incite violence.

The chronology of the statement suggests that Drag Queen Story
Hour believes the alleged agitators Saturday were following the
lead of these leaders and would-be officeholders.

The group of purported Proud Boys, organizers said, "claims to
'protect children," yet "loves to disrupt children’s events with
homophobia and transphobic slurs."

The nonprofit said the men were "yelling, screaming, inciting
violent threats, [and] traumatizing children and their families."

The Alameda County Library, of which the San Lorenzo location is
a satellite, said in a statement that the incident would not
deter its mission of inclusive education.

"Attempts to intimidate and silence others are not tolerated in
libraries," it said. "We are grateful to Panda Dulce for showing
bravery and resilience and finishing the Storytime event. We
will continue to celebrate Pride Month and offer programming
that reflects the diverse voices and experiences of all our
communities."

Kelly of the sheriff's office said its investigation would also
probe the potential "annoying and harassing of children."

News of the disruption came a day after 31 people believed to be
associated with the white nationalist group Patriot Front were
arrested near an event called Pride in the Park in Coeur
d'Alene, Idaho.

Police said the suspects, many found inside a U-Haul moving
truck, were booked on suspicion of conspiracy to riot. Among
those jailed was a man with the same name as Patriot Front's
Texas-based founder, Thomas Ryan Rousseau.

On Sunday the organization GLAAD also blamed conservative
campaign rhetoric and legislation for the presence of far-right
agitators at the Pride Month event in Idaho.

"Anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and the nearly 250 anti-LGBTQ bills
introduced this year are responsible for this dangerous
climate," President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement.

On Sunday, Ellis responded to the Drag Queen Story Hour
disruption by email.

"Storming a children’s story hour is reprehensible," she said.
"No child, family or person should ever be subjected to this
inexcusable and hostile behavior. This rhetoric and incitement
of violence against drag performers, LGBTQ people and allies can
be directly attributed to politicians and their enablers
spreading misinformation and vile rhetoric and must stop
immediately."

In 2019 an event called Drag Queen Storytime inspired national
headlines when protesters amassed during its hourlong reading at
a Chula Vista, Calif., library.

In early 2020, "Saturday Night Live" spoofed the controversy
with host RuPaul performing as a host reader at a San Diego-area
library.

"Reading is throwing shade," RuPaul said, " — a brutal insult
wrapped inside a glorious wordplay."

NBCUniversal Media.

Two women have been charged with child abuse after kids were
allegedly hit with metal knuckles, according to the Burke County
Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they responded to a home in Connelly Springs
earlier this week with officials from the Department of Social
Services and Child Protective Services after receiving an
anonymous tip that child abuse was occurring.

According to the allegations, Natalie “Shane” Childress, 25,
intentionally hit the kids with a pair of metal knuckles causing
serious injuries.

The sheriff said when CPS officials attempted to investigate the
abuse, the children’s mother, Jessica Renee Sanders, 25, told
investigators the kids were not there. After a search, deputies
said they found the children hiding at the location.

The kids were taken to an area hospital and both women were
arrested.

Childress is charged with negligent child abuse inflicting
severe bodily injury and Sanders is charged with aiding or
abetting negligent child abuse inflicting severe bodily injury.

Both women received $250,000 secured bond.

Lewis said WHO does not know the source of the outbreak and
called on countries to take advantage of the “window of
opportunity” to keep cases from unfolding into a greater
outbreak.

OMAHA, Neb. — The Douglas County Health Department confirmed its
first case of monkeypox Monday.

DCHD said the patient is a man in his 30s with a history of
international travel.

He is home isolating and the health department said it is doing
contact tracing to identify any people who may have been exposed.

DCHD said symptoms of monkeypox are similar but milder than
smallpox. The illness usually begins with fever, headache,
muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes and exhaustion. According to
the Health Department it's often accompanied by a rash that
looks like pimples or blisters.

For those who may have been exposed, they may be a candidate for
prophylaxis of a smallpox vaccine.

If you have questions, you can called the Health Department

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The second case of monkeypox in North Carolina
has been found in Mecklenburg County.

NBC affiliate WCNC reports this is the first confirmed case in
the county, but county health leaders say there are likely other
cases.

Last Thursday, the state Department of Health and Human Services
said a case of the viral infection had been found in a North
Carolina resident. While state health officials did not say
where in North Carolina the case was found, the Haywood County
health department confirmed a known case was there.

In both cases, county health leaders said the patients were
isolating at home and people who were in close contact with the
patients will be notified.

"It is very important to be aware of the symptoms of monkeypox
and to be vigilant," said Mecklenburg County Public Health
Director Dr. Raynard Washington. "Individuals with concerning
rashes should contact their health care provider."

Washington also encouraged doctors to consider monkeypox in
people who have a rash or skin lesion resembling the infection.

"Although monkeypox remains rare, the CDC is reporting that
cases continue to rise across the country" he said.

Monkeypox is a rare but potentially serious, viral illness that
involves flu-like symptoms swelling of the lymph nodes and a
rash that includes bumps that are initially filled with fluid
before scabbing over.

The virus does not spread easily, and can only spread through
people who have had close contact. The most common way the
infection is spread is when people come into close contact with
the rash, scabs or bodily fluids of someone who has monkey pox.
The infection can also spread through the air, but only to those
very close, with face-to-face contact like kissing of snuggling.

There is no treatment specific to monkeypox, but because it is a
virus, antiviral medications are often given to treat infections
and to prevent them in people who may be exposed to the virus.

There is a vaccine to prevent monkeypox, but it is not used
widely in the United States because historically the number of
cases in the country has not been significant.

Minnesota has reported a presumptive case of monkeypox, an
infectious disease that has raised concerns because it emerged
globally this spring and has been found in 26 U.S. states.

The infection announced Monday involves a Twin Cities man who is
receiving outpatient treatment for an infection that likely
occurred during travel to Europe. The state's public health
laboratory identified the infection on Saturday night with a
positive test result, which is being confirmed by the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention.

The man did not appear to have close contacts in Minnesota that
present high risks of spreading the virus to others, said Dr.
Ruth Lynfield, state epidemiologist and medical director of the
Minnesota Department of Health.

The risk to the broader public is low because the monkeypox
virus doesn't spread as easily as other infectious agents that
cause measles, influenza or COVID-19. Transmission often
involves prolonged face-to-face exposure or contact with
infectious sores or bodily fluids, or with contaminated clothing
or other items.

"It's important that everyone be aware of this disease, so that
those at risk can seek medical care and get tested promptly if
they believe they have symptoms," said Minnesota Health
Commissioner Jan Malcolm.

The CDC has identified more than 200 monkeypox cases in 26
states. Common symptoms include fever, fatigue, headaches,
muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes and a rash that can look like
pimples or blisters. Some people in the outbreak have only
reported rashes, which typically are found on the hands, feet,
face or genitals.

Antiviral treatments and vaccines are available but are used on
a case-by-case basis. The CDC recommends monkeypox vaccine in
advance of exposure only to health care workers and researchers
who work with the virus.

People with monkeypox are considered infectious until their
rashes have healed. Typical illnesses last two to four weeks.
Rare cases can cause pneumonia or be fatal.

The World Health Organization raised concerns this year because
monkeypox is spreading from person to person and occurring
outside Africa and in countries that typically don't have cases.

Clusters of the infection are common in tightly knit social
groups, and have been identified globally in groups of men who
have sex with other men. Close physical or sexual contact with
an infected individual is a transmission risk, however monkeypox
is not considered a sexually transmitted infection and there are
other risks for exposure.

Health authorities in New York and England responded to case
clusters by offering vaccine to gay and bisexual men who may
have been exposed to the virus through recent sexual activity
with multiple or anonymous partners.

"This being the first Minnesota case ... it seems perhaps a bit
early" to consider that strategy locally, Malcolm said.

Another potential public health response is ring vaccination,
providing shots to all of the close contacts of an infected
person and then to the close contacts of those contacts, said
Rick Kennedy, co-director of Mayo Clinic's vaccine research
group. "If we get everyone around that person protected, then
they are less likely to spread it to other individuals," he said.

Kennedy said this isn't likely to be Minnesota's last case, but
that the risk remains low for now and largely related to travel
outside the state rather than viral spread within the state.

Minnesota first issued a health alert in mid-May so that
providers at emergency departments, dermatology clinics, sexual
health clinics and other medical facilities would be on the
lookout for symptoms.

Monkeypox is considered zoonotic — meaning it can spread across
species from animals to people. It was first discovered in
monkeys in the 1950s, and the name is somewhat of a misnomer as
rodents were thought to be the primary means of spread before
this year's person-to-person outbreak.

A Pennsylvania man wanted on 865 charges of child rape was
captured in Tallahassee on Thursday.

Gerrick Bloom, 46, was wanted in Clarion, Pennsylvania, in
connection with the rape of a child whom investigators say he
had been "grooming" and assaulting since the age of five.

Bloom was captured outside of the Kearney Center by the U.S.
Marshals Fugitive Task Force, according to Deputy Commander
Marty West.

Bloom had been staying at the shelter for the past two days but
had evaded authorities since a warrant was issued for his arrest
on Jan. 16.

“That’s a high traffic area for children getting off school
buses,” West said of where Bloom was taken into custody. “Having
a predator like that hanging around Tallahassee, it would have
only been a matter of time.”

He faces 216 counts of rape of a child, 216 counts of
involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, 216 counts
of aggravated indecent assault of a child, 216 counts of
statutory sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Bloom was in Tampa, West said, after leaving Pennsylvania before
he came to Tallahassee. The U.S. Marshals took up the case Feb.
4.

Bloom’s arrest, West said, has made the streets of Tallahassee
safer.

“Though many can forgive injuries, none ever forgave contempt.”
— Ben Franklin

I used to be naive enough to believe that the most important
leaders in the country were surrounded by the best and brightest
to serve them, and, by hopeful extension, us.

But if they can’t get simple, right-from-wrong matters correct …

In 1990 the first President Bush appointed Arnold
Schwarzenegger, whose fame and fortune were predicated on
steroids to win international bodybuilding glory, Chairman of
the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

This was an absurd choice, antithetical to both physical fitness
and sports. Surely there would be an outcry, widespread ridicule
to reverse this misguided decision. But nothing. Everyone loved
“Ahh-nold,” scripted hero of adventure movies.

Yesterday, the Biden White House, which has blindly supported ex-
men unfairly competing in sports as women as champions of gender
equality — an odd explanation for conspicuous, undeniable
inequality — pulled another rock as it ignored what was
impossible to miss in order to try to score more pandering
political points.

President Biden awarded soccer star and gay and female rights
activist Megan Rapinoe — repulsive in her obnoxious, self-
smitten, classless conduct throughout the 2019 Women’s World Cup
in France that thoroughly open-minded Americans were moved to
root against our team — the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the
nation’s highest civilian honor.

The medal represents “exemplary contributions to the prosperity,
values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other
significant societal, public or private endeavors.”

Yet Rapinoe, during and after that World Cup, established
herself as exemplary of unmitigated selfishness and
classlessness, starting with her knee-takings during the U.S.
anthem, eagerly demonstrating on an international stage her
contempt for her country, beneath her citizenship.

In a senseless 13-0 humiliation of Thailand, Rapinoe made sure
to stand out as the biggest bully. Her easy goal to make it 9-0
was followed by her abandonment of assisting teammates in order
to run the length of the field in nauseating self-aggrandizement.

Hey, without that goal, it would’ve been only 8-0, lots of time
left for more!

On Fox, host Rob Stone, ostensibly assigned to wave the American
flag, grew disgusted by Rapinoe’s conduct and the U.S. team’s
senseless bully-girl brutality. After all, the easiest thing to
accomplish in a lopsided game is not to score, kill the clock,
protect your dignity, spare your throughly vanquished opponents
further humiliation, show them and the world your graceful side.

But as Fox analyst Alexi Lalas spoke hollow rationalizations —
“What did you want them to do?” — as if he didn’t know, Stone
said, “But 13-0? I understand your point, but this game was
done. It became humiliating. It just became an exercise in
target practice.”

And smitten by her own, indefensible devices, Rapinoe, the
captain of the U.S. team that did dirt to the game and country —
even mocking later opponents and their fans after scoring —
became the well-deserved villain of the World Cup. Even here.

Yet, en route to the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Rapinoe
wasn’t done. In her NYC City Hall speech following the parade to
salute the world champs, Rapinoe was unable to address a crowd
packed with kids without shouting “motherf—-r!” Pure class.

No one on Biden’s nominating staff was aware of any of this? No
one did 10 minutes of research? Or were they all good with it,
approved it?

Thus, according to the White House, steroids-reliant Arnold
Schwarzenegger was the national symbol of physical fitness, and
swimmer Lia Thomas, the former William Thomas, fairly competes
against biological women.

Yet Rapinoe, Thursday, was awarded America’s highest civilian
honor by Biden for “exemplary contributions to the prosperity,
values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other
significant societal, public or private endeavors.” She met all
the qualifications.

Oh, no! Broadcast ruined by YES
Since there’s no shaming the bottom-liners who run MLB, the
Yankees and YES, this is how it will remain.

This week, Yankees fans again were sentenced to hard labor (for
which they must pay) as YES fed us Ryan “Rah Rah” Ruocco and
Carlos Beltran in the non-musical remake of “Help!”

We don’t yet know the name of the YES exec who added Beltran,
but he’s likely considered a flight risk — if it’s not too late.
There’s nothing more to write on the subject other than that
Beltran was the worst choice since the Hindenburg was filled
with hydrogen.

Ruocco continues to be easily excited by common happenstances,
such as the Yanks turning a double play — as if he or we had
never before seen such a thing. We just want to watch the
ballgame, not attend a pep rally.

Then there was another Rob Manfred Friday Night. As Yanks-
Cleveland was delayed by rain until postponed, the exclusive
Amazon Prime streaming delivery displayed only a single
stationery camera showing rain falling on the field.

There was no audio, no graphics to indicate if the game was
still on, no nothing, including DVR capabilities to those who
might instead choose to watch something else not going on. This

Lewis said WHO does not know the source of the outbreak and
called on countries to take advantage of the “window of
opportunity” to keep cases from unfolding into a greater
outbreak.

This
was the paywall version of the Ch. 11 Yule Log.

Also, Friday, Rangers-Mets was hidden from greatest-good view as
its appeared on Apple+, where play-by-player and inexhaustible
weekly yakker Melanie Newman involuntarily allowed Howie Rose
the remaining oxygen. Local radio salvaged the night from
additional foresight-barren Manfred destruction.

Obviously, Manfred’s Ready! Fire! Aim! streaming plan was
unprepared to succeed. Not unless neglect and rotten productions
were the bait to purchase MLB-partnered streaming services. In
other words, even if you can’t see or hear it, take it or leave
it!

SNY makes the right call
In this age of blind capitulation to pitching and batting
analytics and optional running to first base, good fundamental
baseball still shines like a lighthouse beam in the darkest
storm.

Thus, on deck, hit-the-deck Brandon Nimmo’s signal to Dom Smith
to slide — and toward the inside of the plate — when Smith
scored in the 10th against the Reds, Wednesday, was immediately
recognized and admired. OK, it wasn’t a Manfred-certified MLB
Network-highlighted bat-flip, but still …

Not that we’re surprised, but Islanders and NHL TV voice Brendan
Burke was solid subbing for John Sterling during Yanks at
Pirates. He’s a listeners-first pro, even politely suffering
Suzyn Waldman’s needless intrusions to identify “a two-seamer”
from “a four-seamer.”

Let the record show that under Manfred the Yankees didn’t play
on the Fourth of July for the first time since 1915. Not that
anything ever before happened, unless you count Lou Gehrig’s
1939 farewell speech and Dave Righetti’s 1983 no-hitter against
Boston.

Chris Broussard, Fox’s NBA “expert” who this week strongly
suggested, despite empty evidence and evidence to the contrary,
that Toronto is a racist town, was low on credibility when he
worked for ESPN, where he at least twice took credit for scoops
first reported by others.

Pro tennis is now as loaded with as many insufferable creeps —
men and women — as the rest of the modern sports junk pile.
Rooting interests are now based on the lesser of two weasels. If
Nick Kyrgios were hitting a ball against a wall, I’d root for
the wall.

Reader Kelly Feniger wonders what Ralph Kiner would do to the
Marlins’ Garrett Cooper given that Kiner regularly called Gary
Carter Gary Cooper. I think he’d have split the difference and
called him Marlin Brando.

Sen. Ted Cruz argued that the US Supreme Court decision to
legalize gay marriage was “clearly wrong” — while discussing the
possibility of its reversal.

“So look, Obergefell, like Roe v. Wade, ignored two centuries of
our nation’s history,” the Texas Republican said on his show,
“Verdict with Ted Cruz” Saturday. “Marriage was always an issue
that was left to the states.”

Cruz was referencing Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark decision
that guaranteed the right to same-sex marriage nationwide in
2015.

Before the Supreme Court made that decision, “some states were
moving to allow gay marriage, other states were moving to allow
civil partnerships,” Cruz said. “They were different standards
that the states were adopting.”

He did acknowledge that its reversal would create massive legal
complications.

“You’ve got a ton of people who have entered into gay marriages
and it would be more than a little chaotic for the court to do
something that somehow disrupted those marriages,” the senator
added.

Cruz’s comments followed the high court’s overturning of Roe v.
Wade in late June, a ruling that upheld a Mississippi law
banning the procedure after 15 weeks of pregnancy – and left the
issue up to each of the 50 states.

Justice Clarence Thomas, in his opinion concurring with the
decision to reverse Roe, called for the court to re-examine and
potentially overturn rulings that protect gay marriage and
access to birth control.

“In future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s
substantive due process precedents, including Griswold,
Lawrence, and Obergefell,” he wrote.

Thomas was referring to a 1965 ruling, Griswold v. Connecticut,
that allowed married couples to access birth control and a 2003
ruling, Lawrence v. Texas, that banned states from outlawing
consensual gay sex.

Justice Samuel Alito, however, wrote in the majority opinion
overturning Roe that “we emphasize that our decision concerns
the constitutional right to abortion and no other right.”

Justice Brett Kavanaugh added: “Nothing in this opinion should
be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern
abortion.”

Cruz said he doesn’t think the court has “any appetite” for
overturning the decisions that Thomas referenced.

Still, Cruz said the decision to legalize gay marriage was
“overreaching and “was clearly wrong when it was decided.”

Couldn’t agree more. This is a State issue. When we got married
we had to get a marriage license for THE STATE, not the Feds.
When you need a drivers license they come from a State, not the

John Roberts must be compromised. What on the Oscamacare
decision and also Obergefell as obviously a state jurisdiction.

Roberts has turned out to be a neoliberal dud on just about
every decision, even couching his Roe reversal decision.
